People read numbers and numbers of books and see better or worse movies, documentary films…to hear, to read and to see films can never substitute a personal experience to be physically there, walking through the sites were the most brutal disaster of a human race that ever happened.

Historical background
After the Nazi occupation of Poland in September 1939 the city Oswiecim with surrounding villages was included to the 3rd Reich and the Nazis started to call the region Auschwitz. In 1940 the Concentration camp Auschwitz was installed and in 1941 the Extermination camp Auschwitz Birkenau was build. As some of the prisoners were sent to gas chambers directly, not being tattooed, it is very complicated to estimate of exact number of victims. Usually historians speak about more then one milion murdered.

Every concentration camp was an Extermination camp wasn‘t it?
There were seven extermination camps – primarily on the occupied teritory of Poland – otherwise there was more then one thousand Concentration camps practically all over Continental Europe.
Are the gas chambers preserved?
Nowadays there is a gas chamber with crematorium in Auschwitz I. – the only preserved. In Auschwitz Birkenau there are ruins of four gas chambers and crematoriums are visible. Two of them exploded by the Nazis on the run…as crying wittnesses of their crimes. The other gas chamber and crematorium was partially damaged by the Jewish prisoners during the uprise on October 7th, 1944.
Were people tattooed in all concentration camps?
The only concentration camp were people were tattooed with numbers as cattle was Auschwitz.
